Road Trip

A group of bikes strung out along a twisting Canyon Road.  Yellow centre lines snaking away in your mirrors.  Pulling up at a roadside bar to cool your thirst with your friends.  This is what a Big Rock Road Trip is all about.  For the first time in 5 years the World Superbike Championship is heading back to the U.S. at Miller Motorsports Park, Salt Lake City and Big Rock have put together one of their best riding holidays to take it in.  An amazing ride through some of Western Americas wildest regions on roads that range from tight twisty valley bottom roads to 50 mile straights! After this road trip you will never be the same!

Itinerary

Monday 26th May.

Flying direct from London Gatwick you will arrive in Las Vegas where the holiday will start with a two-night stay in the gambling capital of the world.  Don’t worry if gambling’s not your thing there is plenty to see and do and after a night on the town we will be off the next morning to pick up the bikes.

Tuesday 27th May

You will be picked up from the hotel in the morning and taken to the local agent to pick up the Harley of your choice.  Direct from the dealership we will head out into the mountains to the North West of Vegas.  From the heart of the Vegas strip all the way to the snowline (that’s right a snowline 40 miles from Vegas…………….In May!!) of Mt Charleston.  This winding Canyon road with its hot black surface curling through cactus and scrub brush will give you the perfect taster of the days to follow.

Wednesday 28th May

An early morning start to beat the heat will see us ride north out of Nevada and into the canyon lands of Utah.  Zion and Bryce canyons are amongst the world’s most beautiful landscapes.  Scenic Byway 12 runs along the floor of a vast canyon system and runs for miles past multi coloured rock faces and spectacular mountain views.  Our destination this evening is inside Zion Canyon itself where the spectacular hotel setting is the ideal backdrop to watch the sunset over the desert.

Thursday 29th May

A short mileage day with the freedom to explore Route 12 and both Zion and Bryce Canyon.  There are endless routes to explore and some great stops along the way.  If you prefer you could head out on a trip on foot into either of the parks.  This is a day for you to explore. Your hotel this evening is situated at the entrance to Bryce Canyon.

Friday 30th May

Another day in the canyons of Southern Utah on our way north to Salt Lake City.  A longer day which will see us head out towards the great deserts of Western Utah.  Our hotel for the duration of the race is situated in downtown Salt Lake City and is a great base from which to explore the area.

Saturday 31st May  & Sunday 1st June

World Superbikes are back in the US for the first time in 5 years and for their very first visit to Miller Motorsports Park.  With a transfer to and from the circuit the weekend will be spent with unrivalled access to both the WSB Paddock and Pit lane.  As well as hospitality, Big Rocks relationship with the Alstare Team will ensure you are able to get right to the heart of the event.  Add to this a couple of good nights out (yes, you can have a good night out in Salt Lake) and you have the ideal break before once more setting out into the desert.

Monday 2nd June

A ride across Bonneville Salt Flats is something straight (and I mean straight!!) out of a movie.  Sun bleached white salt stretching out to distant mountains.  The group will ride right across this beautiful landscape before breaking away south for the town of Ely for an overnight stay.  Ely is a small but historic town set in the desert along side Highway 50.

Tuesday 3rd June

Today you will ride Highway 50 “The Loneliest Road in America.” which follows the route of the old Pony Express trails that once ran the breadth of the country.  Of all the days this one will give you a true appreciation of the size of the country through which you are riding.  Vast views, infinite roads stretching away from your front wheel and tumbleweed blowing through gas stations all confirm your are truly in the heart of a great wilderness.  Our hotel for this evening is situated in the Gold Town of Virginia City.  Wild west saloons, boardwalks and the oldest Bar in Nevada.

Wednesday 4th June

Our final day on the bikes will be one of the most spectacular.  From Virginia City we head along the shores of Lake Tahoe and over some of the high passes through the Sierra Nevada mountain range before dropping down into San Francisco.  Once we drop our bikes off it’s into town for a final night and to look back on what will have been one of the most rewarding rides you have ever had.

Thursday 5th June

Big Rocks hotel is situated right in the heart of the city and an easy walk or tram ride from all the major sights.  For those of you wanting to fully explore this great city it’s a whole day to yourself and another night before flying out

Friday 6th June

A morning in the city and time for a final diner breakfast before you fly home.  You will leave for the airport at about 1pm

Saturday 7th June

Arrive back in the UK

Canyon Road

If you want to experience a full US Road Trip with views that make you feel like you stepped into a film and hotels and roadhouses to match then this is this is the holiday for you and could be the ride of your life!  You cannot beat riding a Harley through the desert with a group of friends across shimmering tarmac and then reliving the whole experience each evening over a frosted beer.  This will be the “trip of a lifetime!!”
