Brno motogp 2010 results & race report

From the Pit wall... In the Pit Lane, the worse kept secret in GP history is finally confirmed - Rossi will ride for Ducati next year, and is therefore not included in Yamaha Factory testing from now on. Spies is rumoured to be moving up from Tech 3 to take Rossi's ride and Brit WSB star Cal Crutchlow is very likely to move into Spies place. Good to see a British rider back in the championship.

Controversy ensued as the governing body - in response to Suzuki factory team's requests - granted dispensation to teams who haven't won a race in the last 2 seasons, softening the 6 engine rule to allow them 9. Of course Rossi missing 2 races gives his side of the garage some flexibility. It's predicted that this will advance Lorenzo's championship hopes even more by giving Rossi a strong performance in the tail end of the season - denying rival teams valuable points.

Last year Brno went badly for Lorenzo, This year he's looking strong with his consistency problems behind him and is 72 points ahead!

Qualifying drama... Qualifying saw a series of dramatic events with De Puniet (back after breaking his leg only several weeks ago) and Bautista, Simoncelli and Rossi among others being caught out by Brno's evil downhill bends. Hayden also fell, chipping his wrist's radius bone but went on to race.

Lorenzo and Pedrosa preempted the race with an almighty scrap over lines during the earlier session, while Spies brought it home for Tech 3 beating the factory Yam's hands down. Pedrosa's last minute dash though just knocked Spies off pole.

The lights go out... Rain in the morning of race day cleared but had taken a lot of grip away from the track. Off the line Spies held onto Pedrosa well but Lorenzo very quickly took them both but Spies followed him past Pedrosa. Rossi seemed to be suffering from an issue of some kind and slotted in 8th.

Pedrosa came back at Spies as Stoner closed in on him. Further down the field Capirossi came off and Simoncelli charged up from 12th to 9th behind Rossi who was struggling 3.64 secs behind the other factory Yam despite the 3 weeks of additional recuperation since Laguna.

Spies looked glued to the back of Pedrosa as Lorenzo pulled out a small lead on the Honda, meanwhile Dovizioso went down right in the path of the pack behind him. We held our breath as all the riders just managed to avoid him by inches.

Rossi took the injured hayden for 5th, but was still off the pace as Stoner denied Spies hopes of his first podium. Lorenzo found a great rhythm and started stretching out the lead as the focus of the race shifted to the mid-field, where De Puniet, Melandri, Simoncelli, Barbera and Bautista were hammering each other for positions.

Across the line - and streets ahead - came Lorenzo, then Pedrosa, Stoner, Spies and Rossi.

The next race is Indianapolis- a track that couldn't be more different from Brno. Can Rossi catch up to Pedrosa, Stoner and Lorenzo? Can Spies hold onto his new-found pace and become a front runner in the second half of the season?

Stoner signs with Honda for 2011.

The long-rumoured departure from Ducati has been confirmed as Stoner announced he has signed to Honda for 2011. Even though it was Ducati that gave the Aussie a World Title, hopefully the set-up and reliability issues that have spoiled his championship hopes for 2010 will be behind him next year. Of course Rossi's move to Ducati has been speculated on for some time in the GP paddock.

WSB Silverstone

Brit riders bring it home at Silverstone.

Cal Crutchlow, Rea, Haslam and Camier cleaned up at the weekend on home turf with Crutchlow winning both races.

In race 1 Rea opened an early lead but Cal eventually pushed past giving record-pace performance. Biaggi was sixth.

Leon Haslam: "It was a hard fight and Johnny and Cal have had a good pace all weekend, I managed to catch them a little bit but dropped off towards the end. It was a bit frustrating as they looked as if they were having a lot of fun!"

Race 2 saw Crutchlow again push past early leader Rea late in the race with Camier coming from 16th to cross the line just ahead of Haslam for third. James Toseland looked strong in fifth and Biaggi came sixth once again.

Cal Crutchlow: "As people have said, it's a dream come true for a lot of Brits, three on the podium in both races. All credit to the fans, they gave us tremendous support here today. What a brilliant day for Yamaha and a brilliant day for me! I couldn't believe both wins came at once, I would rather have had one earlier in the year and one today, but we've been fighting for this all the year and here it is."

The weekend slightly eroded Biaggi's championship lead with Leon's second and fourth results and Cal's double win.
